Wherever the waters of the Jura tried to make their way from the Jura folds into the Swiss Plateau, they carved out deep gorges.
But drainage is to the north and the south, and so rivers have to cross the ridges, which they do in gorges, locally also called cluse.
Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. The starting point for this attractive hike through the Areuse Gorge is the small village of Noiraigues in the Val de Travers. 11.5 km

We didn't rush, so maybe in Summer you canI came here because it was close to Neuchâtel which is where I was staying. The 11 km along the river offers beautiful and peaceful pictures of nature. 394 m

Lovely walk although quite steep at times and quite a few steps to climb.
Even on hot summer days, a cool breeze blows.The route follows the railway line and the valley soon narrows dramatically.
